Module 1: Building a Culture of Digital Curiosity

Module Introduction :

The increasing integration of digital tools in education presents both significant opportunities and considerable challenges for educators. While the potential for innovation is well recognised, the practical process of adopting new technologies can often feel overwhelming or unclear. This module proposes an alternative approach—one that is grounded in curiosity, small-scale experimentation, and gradual habit formation.

Rather than positioning digital adoption as a complex or high-stakes transformation, this module encourages educators to explore new tools through purposeful, low-pressure actions that align with their teaching context. Emphasis is placed on cultivating a mindset of digital curiosity, where the motivation to explore is supported by structured self-guidance strategies known as self-nudges.

This module does not seek to prescribe specific technologies or impose uniform practices. Instead, it provides practical guidance and resources to empower educators to take ownership of their digital development—beginning with curiosity, supported by evidence-informed strategies, and sustained through reflective practice.

Objective:

To support educators in adopting a mindset of experimentation and self-directed learning with digital tools. This module encourages low-risk, curiosity-driven approaches to digital teaching by utilising self-nudging techniques that promote early wins and reduce resistance.

Expected Outcomes:

By the end of this module, learners will have:

  • Gained a clear understanding of how self-nudging techniques can be used to sustain digital teaching habits over time
  • Identified one or more practical nudges that support consistent engagement with digital tools
  • Applied a self-nudge to reinforce the continued use of a chosen tool or platform in their own teaching context
  • Shared a digital teaching insight or experience with a peer or professional community to contribute to a culture of collaboration and experimentation
  • Developed a personal plan for maintaining and expanding their digital practice beyond the module

Learner progress will be assessed through a practical activity in which they document a digital tool they have tried, describe its use and outcome, and outline a next step supported by a personal nudge. Successful completion will be measured by the submission or completion of this activity, either in written form or via a guided template, and through optional peer sharing to reinforce learning and community engagement.
