This module provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical use of self-nudging techniques and digital- and AI-driven tools in educational settings. While AI and digital technologies are increasingly embraced worldwide, higher education often lacks the necessary guidance and support to fully engage in the digital transition. Implementing these tools can be challenging, not only due to their rapid innovation and evolving nature but also because of the ethical, safe, and responsible considerations they raise. In this context, educators must not only understand the capabilities of these tools but also critically reflect on their impact on their daily working life, including the interaction with students and pedagogical approaches. Self-nudging, the practice of creating subtle prompts to guide one’s own behavior, offers a practical strategy for educators aiming to adopt AI responsibly, but similarly to the ethical application of digital tools, encourages to consider also its own ethical application.
In this module, learners will explore the key principles and debates surrounding the ethical use of digital and AI tools in education. They will become familiar with existing tools and techniques, especially self-nudges, to enhance their digital literacy, and learn how to apply these tools responsibly in their daily professional practice.
